Getting your flat roof ready for winter
Clear and clean roof
Ensuring your roof and gutters are free from debris such as branches, leaves, equipment and anything else that doesn’t belong on your flat roof is a priority. Anything left on the surface can act as a hazard to the system. Leaving debris on your roof risks puncturing the membrane and allowing water into the system.
Free flowing gutters
Abnormal amounts of rain and melting snow produces excessive amounts of water the water needs a place to go. Ensure all the gutters and downspouts are clear of leaves and foliage to stop water from backing up and sitting on your rooftop.
Evaluate your surroundings
It can be advisable to check the surrounding infrastructure to your building. With winter comes snow, wind and rain. Could these elements have an adverse effect on any trees close to your property that could result in damage? Assessing and preparing adjacent buildings to yours can also be an option, snow can drift from one flat roof to another and cause numerous problems
Arrange an inspection
Before the winter weather hits, it is advisable that you get a professional roofer to come and assess your flat roof. At VJR Roofing Contractors we can arrange for a member of our team to inspect your roof and look for damage or areas of potential damage. It’s imperative that these issues are addressed prior to the winter and all the problems that it brings.
Check your insurance
Even the best laid plans can be scuppered by the elements. Which is why we advise you to check your insurance policy and ensure that you are happy with the level of cover you have.
